Dhampus Peak is also known as Thapa Peak located in the Dhaulagiri region of the trekking trail. It is a non-technical trekking peak, that offers beautiful landscapes of white Himalayan peaks and a wide variety of vegetation with scenic beauty.

Dhaulagiri is rarely a new trek where only a few people visits per year. Our trek takes us across the Kali Gandaki River and then north into the heart of the massif; from the base camp we come to the high point of our trek, the traverse of French Pass (5,360 m), the hidden Valley and Dhampus Pass (5182 m), a high level; a route which brings us back to the upper Kali Gandaki Valley in Jomsom. From here, either, fly back to Kathmandu via Pokhara or we can continue from Jomsom to Birethanti or to Pokhara.

This magnificent peak rises like a giant shoulder of shining ice and snow. This is a conical peak on the northern side of Thapa (Dhampus) Pass and is generally snow-covered but not alpine in nature i.e. no crevasses. The Dhampus peak climbing route also covers the Dhaulagiri Round trek with a flight to the world's deepest gorge located between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.

During this Dhampus peak trip, you can enjoy the magnificent views of Dhaulagiri 1- 8163m, Sita Chuchura 6611m, Nilgiri 6940m, Thapa Peak 6015m, Tukche Peak 6920m, Tilicho peak 7134m, Thorong Peak 6484m, Yakawa Kan 6482m, Puth Hiunchuli 7246m, Mukut Himal 6639m, Tangu Peak 6197m, Hongde peak 6556m, Tsarste 6347m, and more snow-capped mountains. The trekking trail to Dhampus Peak also offers various dense forests of Rhododendron and Oka trees, waterfalls, and villages with mixed cultures, rivers, and terraced rice fields with the existence of wildlife such as Musk Deer, Ghoral, and Mountain goats.

Today is the rest day for acclimatization or an extra day in case of bad weather and our climbing crew will check the necessary gears and equipment.

Today is the main highlight of the whole trip as from early in the morning we start to climb Dhampus Peak. We are mostly ready with all climbing gear and follow the Sherpa's guidance and instructions. There are several technical sections and finally, reach the summit of Dhampus Peak with an amazing Mountain view of the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tilicho Peak, and more snow-capped peaks. After having a successful attempt, return back to Dhampus Peak Base Camp.

Today, we can face another adventure and challenging pass called Dhampus Pass which is situated with an elevation of 5,244 meters. Our destination goes to Yak Kharka from Hidden Valley through avalanche-prone slopes and we will descend rocky trail. We can have amazing two peaks such as Dhampus Peak and Tukuche Peak. Then, the trekking trail descends steeply to Yak Kharka.

In the morning, we can have the beautiful landscape of Mt. Nilgiri and Annapurna Massif and trek down to Jomsom for our next-day flight to Pokhara. It is all the way down to Jomsom from Yak Kharka. Additional Information

Climbing Difficulty

Climbing to the Himalayas is physically challenging having a long time to going upwards and downwards with preparation of positive mentality. Technical parts are very important while climbing to Mountains such as changing ropes, using Jhumar, ice axe, helmet, boots, dress, and more. For a successful summit of a Mountain, one can be fully prepared physically and mentally. Mountain climbing is an adventure journey to rise up against the gravitational force; it is hard to climb over the rocky surface of the Himalayas on the surface of plain land. And while you will be successful to climb in the Himalayas that is a very important memory in your life. Tiredness, Struggle, Pain, success, smile, and beauty come together while climbing Mountain.

Is it difficult to climb Dhampus Peak?

You do not need to be a good Football player or Olympic athlete to succeed Dhampus Peak climbing though you must know the technical skill of climbing because it is rock and Mountain. Dhampus Peak Climbing is technically up-front so must be physical and mental preparation to face any kind of challenge and difficulty.

Dhampus Peak is a trekking peak that does not require any high level of mountaineering skills but should have the knowledge of climbing and using gears and equipment. So need to use crampons and an ice axe and fix the rope.

Anyone who is mentally and physically fit can easily complete the climbing of Dhampus Peak. Walking slowly, drinking plenty of water, enjoying nature, avoiding colds, eating a balanced diet, and mentally daring to reach the top of Dhampus Peak in a happy mood are the hallmarks of your successful journey to your destination. Though, the trekking trail to Dhaulagiri also gives you a positive vibration and helpful adventure to climb ahead of Dhampus Peak.

High Altitude Sickness

If the Climbers have symptoms of headache, loss of appetite, diarrhea, shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, and rapid pulse with sleeping problems, he/she is suffered from high altitude sickness.  Other factors such as changing weather, cold, sun, wind, low oxygen, and bad foods are the key component of high altitude sickness. So trekkers need to warm up while trekking EBC with proper clothes and equipment. It can affect people of any age, sex, and physical condition. So, we suggest our clients, do not drink alcohol and smoke, drink plenty of water while hiking to Everest Base Camp, train your body and strength up before trekking, eat energy food, and mentally be happy during your journey. The most common medicine for preventing high altitude sickness is Diamox or Acetazolamide. Even our guide takes Diamox on the route which is easily purchased in Kathmandu and during the trekking section. Ascending down is the solution to avoid high altitude as altitude sickness affects people from the elevation of 2600 meters above sea level. For normal high altitude sickness, our guide helps to control it by providing medicine and good food and he takes it to medication center where available. If the trekkers feel bad, we send a private helicopter for rescue, which is covered by your personal travel insurance. So, individual insurance is necessary while climbing to Chulu East Peak that is in case of emergency.

Best Time to Climb

If you are looking Climb to Dhampus Peak, you must know the best time to visit such as weather and circumstances with other factors that affect in your trip. The best time to visit Everest Base Camp is March–May and Sep – Nov due to the clear sky and pleasant temperature.  Spring and autumn is considered as the best season to Climb Dhampus Peak. In spring, the days are warmer and longer whereas autumn has short days. October and April is the peak touristic months having more crowd but the weather is fantastic and amazing.

Pre-monsoon is called spring season which covers the month of March, April, and May whereas in the lower region of Everest, rhododendron, and flower blooms with warm temperatures. In higher routes, there will be more chance of problematic snowfall with sunny weather.

Post-monsoon is called the autumn season which covers the month of September, October, and November whereas the Himalayas is full of blue sky, pleasant atmosphere, and moderate temperature with less chance of problematic snowfall. As for the climate, it is neither warmer at day nor not freezing cold at night. The Tea houses, and cafes are full of tourists and visitors in the autumn season.

Accommodation

During the trekking trail from Dhaulagiri to Dhaulagiri Base Camp, trekkers sleep and eat in Tea houses. But during the climbing section for night sleep, we will organize Camping Tents at Dhampus Base Camp. We also serve food during the climbing section.

Tea houses provide tea and food which is the best possible accommodation available on the route. Tea houses offer very basic accommodation facilities having a bed and blanket inside the room and in some places attached bathroom too. The tea houses look very basic and normal but it is neat and clean. In our program, we provide simple/normal lodges for trekkers and according to their choice and interest also can provide luxury lodges where available. Though, tea houses provide us a blanket it is not enough to reduce cold. That is why, we suggest bringing a sleeping bag own self to make a warm and safety night. During Base Camp of Chulu East, high Camp, and in Yak Kharka, the climbers sleep in a camping tent where all meals will be serve by the Adventure Planner climbing crew. After we will leave Ngawal village in all sections, we make a camping tent before reaching Manag village after climbing Chulu East Peak.

Food and water

Food and water are very important things during the trek to Everest Base Camp and the climbing section. Tea houses provide breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Tea/coffee. Trekkers can choose the food from the Menu list of what they like to eat such as Nepali food (Dal Bhat), soups, snacks, momos, fried Rice, continental and American breakfast, porridge, Bread with Jam and honey, Eggs, noodles, spaghetti, spring roll, fried potatoes, and steak.

We recommend having vegetarian food during the trek due to porters and yaks carry meat from the lower region which is not refrigerated which may cause stomach problems. Therefore, we would highly recommend avoiding meat dishes on the route with the exception of tinned fish and preserved items. So, no need to carry food except chocolates, such as Diary milk, Snickers, Mars, and so on.

Do not drink water from rivers or waterfalls; local people can easily drink running water that is not fit for foreigners as they do not have a habit before. So, we recommend drinking bottle water or boiled water for good health that keeps our bodies safe. Even, trekkers keep purification tablets inside water, which kills 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. Because of the altitude, it is recommended to drink 2-3 liters per day.

During the climbing section of Dhampus peak, we provide Dal bhat which is local food and also provides noodles, soup, Breakfast such as Toast, Omelet egg, Tea Coffee and so on.

Hire a Guide

A person having license from Nepal government, who guides visitor, interprets the cultural and nature, leads the right track to the Himalaya having responsible work recognized by the appropriate authority is known as trekking guide. Guide not only led the way rather he is the ambassador of country explaining People, history, geography, religion and make successful attempt for visitors.

Trekking guide is also knows as Trek Leader who makes easy access in Himalayan region to book Tea houses, order food for visitors, manage porters, and lead the right trail to destination. During trekking, Guide is a good friend, makes entertainment with fun and laughter too. So, Trekking guides has very important role who not only make enjoyable trip but also educate the visitors through interpretation and contribute sustainability of local environment. The trekking agency should choose appropriate guide by providing suitable training time and again though they are government license holder. Guides expected to work to a high level of customer service keeping good reputation of the company and clients.

That is why our Guide has good communication skill, immediately solve the problem, decision making with self-motivation having physically strong and fit. Either the visitor go to Everest region trek, Annapurna region trek, Upper Mustang trek, Langtang region trek or other trekking trail, our guide makes successful effort to complete the trip. We will send climbing guide from Kathmandu with you who will help for both section such as trekking and climbing section.

Hire a Porter

Trekking porters are those people who carry the gear of trekkers from one place to other, lives in village especially from Sherpa, Tamang, Gurung and Rai, community. They are very innocent, kind, pleasant and smiling having broken English will be together from beginning to the end of the trip. Porters are the backbone of the trekking without them it will be incomplete. A trekking porter carries 25 kg to 30 kg of gears who are very fit from mountain altitude. Porters are the transport of the visitors so must be good relationship with Guide and trekkers. During the end of the trek at Kathmandu, we suggest for visitor to have TIP to porters for their support and cooperation.

Trekking porters drive together with the trekking crew from Kathmandu. Our guide will manage to find the porter and during tea house section they will sleep in tea house and during climbing section they sleep in camping tent with trekking crew. Even in Base Camp, they wait the climbers and finally go ahead to Annapurna circuit and drive to Pokhara by bus from Josmom.

Telephone and Internet

The internet, telephone, and mobile phone is not available all the way to Dhaulagiri and Dhampus peak section. There are multiple options for Internet and mobile network such as NTC and NCELL. Sometimes the internet becomes poor during the time of bad weather or snow. Even the guest houses have WI-FI during the trek to Dhaulagiri which is not free, may charge to you.

But during Base Camp of Dhampus Peak, and even before the trek most of the places the telephone does not work. After the trek telephone and the internet is possible when you will arrive at Jomsom and before the trek at the beginning of three /four days telephone and internetwork.

Due to the exciting geography and sometimes bad weather conditions, the mobile network has not have access in all parts of the trial but networks such as NCELL and NTC work in most of the places. Both NTC and NCELL Sim Cards can purchase at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, or in the street of tourist town Thamel.

Toilet and Shower

Wherever traveling in the Himalayas, one must know the circumstances of the toilet and shower before departing to the destination. During the trek to Dhaulagiri trekking trail, toilets and showers should be shared by all trekkers due to common Tea houses only with normal beds in the Room. There is the opportunity of an attached Room with a toilet and Shower in some places; we provide it where possible to get it.

We suggest bringing toilet paper during the trial due to the very cold water for your safety and protection. In the climbing part, our climbing members will organize a camping tent for the toilet too as we want to protect the environment and we dig the toilet inside the mud. During the climbing, section Shower is not possible because there are no tea houses so before reach to Jomsom any climbers will not have the opportunity to get a shower.

Climbing Insurance

Climbing insurance is a very important component during the climbing Dhampus Peak. We suggest trekkers make plans to be covered up to 6,200 meters. Due to unexpected events or emergency evacuation, if the trekkers feel uncomfortable walking in Himalayas, Helicopter rescue is necessary along with administration in the hospital. So, need insurance for your safety and protection. There are so many insurance companies, you may find on the internet that make strong insurance for your security. There may occur so many causes such as altitude sickness, accidents, physical illness, and flight cancellation, which is why need to make insurance before you fly to Nepal for Dhampus Peak Climbing.

Climbing Permit

Annapurna Circuit is situated inside the territory of Annapurna Conservation Area which is the first conservation area of Nepal. Foreign Trekkers are required to obtain permits to enter Annapurna Circuit Trek such as ACAP Permit and TIMS.

ACAP is known as the Annapurna Conservation Area permit which costs 30$ per person which is 10$ for TIMS (Trekking Information Management System). Permits and TIMS can be purchased in Nepal Tourism Board by our company. During the trek, need to show Permit in checking points from our trekking guide and provide a permit to you after finish the trek in Pokhara. Our company needs your passport copy and 2 copy of passport size Photos to make a permit in Kathmandu.

We also need a climbing permit for Dhampus Peak. The permit cost of Dhampus is 500 USD.
